The Characters
Jack Skellington
A.k.a. The Pumpkin King, Skeleton Jack, Bone Daddy
The most prominent citizen of Halloween Town, Jack Skellington is in charge of all of the Halloween festivities. He is the hero of the story, very noble, friendly, and has an insatiable curiosity which can get him into some strange predicaments sometimes. Jack is well known and very well liked and respected by all of Halloween Town's other citizens.
"That's right, I AM the Pumpkin King!!"
Sally
A.k.a. Sally the Rag Doll, Sally Finkelstein, and eventually Sally Skellington
A very shy and sweet natured girl, Sally is one of Dr. Finkelstein's creations. He likes to keep her under lock and key, much in the manner of a doting parent. Sally feels very smothered and restless, and is constantly trying to break free of the doctor's confines. Sally is a great cook and seamstress, and is also gifted with a sort of sixth sense that tells her when there is danger afoot. She eventually becomes Jack's saving grace and loving companion
"I'm restless... I can't help it!"
Zero
Zero is Jack's faithful ghostly companion. He follows Jack pretty much everywhere, and sometimes helps Jack in various situations. Look for him to replace Jack's jawbone after the sleigh crash in the graveyard scene, and of course, lighting Jack's way through the sky with the glowing light from his Jack-O-Lantern nose!
Dr. Finkelstein
A.k.a. The Scientist
Sally's father figure and the lead inventor in Halloween Town, Dr. Finkelstein spends most of his time alone in his tower, cooking up all sorts of creations and experiments. He is often thought of as "evil," or "The Evil Scientist," but he's not really evil, he just has a mean and controlling streak about him. He also seems to spend a lot of time chasing Sally in her attempts to break free of the monotonous, boring life he has planned for her.
"ME! To whom you owe your very LIFE!"
Lock
One of Halloween Town's 3 "finest trick-or-treaters," Lock leads his 2 mischievous companions into trouble again and again. Lock seems to have a bit of a violent streak to him, as well. He wears a devil-face mask, which reveals a very similar face and hair when it is removed.
"I say that we take a cannon, aim it at his door and then, knock 3 times, and when he answers, Sandy Claws will be no more!"
Shock
The femme fatale in Halloween Town's trickster trio, Shock shares control of the group with Lock. She is seen wearing a blank purplish mask, atop of which sits a hat that is nearly as tall as the Mayor's! Shock has the more overbearing and controlling stance among the group.
"I wish my cohorts weren't so dumb..."
Barrel
Barrel takes up the rear of the 3 trick-or-treat kids. He is rolly-poly, always found with a lollipop in hand, and constantly looks like he's really up to something! He doesn't quite keep up with Lock and Shock, and so he is sometimes found bumbling behind. He wears a round face mask which is exactly like his own face. Barrel is the awkward tubby kid in the team, (and therefore, my favorite of the three!)
Shock: "Jack said we should work
together!"
Lock: "Three of a kind!"
Barrel:
"Birds of a feather!"
All 3: "Now and forever!"
Oogie Boogie
A.k.a. Oogie, Mister Oogie Boogie Man, The Boogie Man, The Oogie Boogie man, "The shadow on the moon at night!"
Made out of canvas cloth and your darkest fears, stuffed with bugs and whatever else creeps you out, this guy is the villain of Halloween Town, if ever there were one! He lives in a secluded location outside of the town, actually, a place where no one except his 3 young henchmen, Lock, Shock, and Barrel, dare to wander. Oogie enjoys gambling, and has his whole place decked out like a freaky, nightmarish casino, complete with one armed bandits who pack heat!
"The sounds of rolling dice to me is music in the air! 'Cuz I'm a gambling Boogie man, although I don't play fair!"
The Mayor
Sure, this guy wears the badge and the title of the guy who's supposed to be in charge of things around Halloween Town, but the truth is, if it weren't for Jack Skellington, the Mayor wouldn't know if he was coming or going! The Mayor also has 2 faces, his happy or stress-free face, and his completely stressed, worried, or sad face. He is very easily confused, and tends to jump into things before he really knows what's going on. The Mayor epitomizes the world's views of authority figures. Well at least my views. Despite his shortcomings, he still manages to be friendly to Halloween Town's citizens, and keeps the peace at least somewhat.
"I'm only an elected official here, I can't make decisions by myself!"
Sandy Claws
A.k.a. Santa Claus, Big Red Lobster Man
Who doesn't know who Santa Claus is? He's the bringer of all things good and cheerful at Christmastime! The keeper of the bottomless bag of toys that we all dreamt about as kids! Well, Halloween Town's citizens don't really know who he is. When Jack tells them about Christmas Town, Santa comes to be known as Sandy Claws, "a fearsome king with a big mighty voice!" that is how they heard it said. Sandy is seen in a completely wrong light right up until the very end, when things eventually fall into place.
"...Save Christmas? Well of course! I'm Santa Claus!!"
Here is a list of just a few of the monsters, ghouls, etc. you'll encounter in Halloween Town!
The Harlequin Demon
The big fuzzy guy you just wanna hug! Ok, maybe not. He has sharp teeth and a mouth that can expand wide enough to swallow you whole! Despite his spookyness, however, this guy is my personal favorite out of all of Halloween Town's monsters!
"Won't they be impressed, I am a genious! See how I transform this old rat into a most delightful hat!"
Saxophone guy
One of the 3 members of the Halloween Town street musicians. He is accompanied by a bassist and an accordion player.
"Nice work, Bone Daddy..."
The Vampires
There are 4 vampires all together who inhabit the coffins and catacombs of Halloween Town
Mayor: "Our first award goes to the Vampires for most blood drained in a single evening!"
